Day 5 – How to Build Your First Content Cluster in 2025 (Step-by-Step Tutorial)
Welcome back to Day 5 of the 10-Day Blogging Challenge!
By now, you’ve:
-
Chosen your niche (Day 1)
-
Set up your blog + homepage funnel (Day 2)
-
Planned your keywords (Day 3)
-
Written your first optimized post (Day 4)
Today we make the engine that powers your SEO: the content cluster. Think of this as your blog’s “universe” — one big topic (pillar post) surrounded by smaller planets (supporting posts).
This step transforms your site from a random collection of articles into a traffic and authority machine.
🚀 Step 1 — Understand the Content Cluster Strategy
A content cluster is:
-
1 Pillar Post: a deep, comprehensive guide targeting a main keyword.
-
5–7 Supporting Posts: shorter articles targeting subtopics.
-
Internal Links: all support posts link to the pillar; the pillar links back out.
👉 Why it matters:
-
Google loves topical depth (it proves you’re an authority).
-
Readers stick around longer → more trust → more subscribers.
-
Every page naturally promotes your opt-in and affiliate offers.

🔍 Step 2 — Choose Your Pillar Topic
Your pillar should come from Day 3’s keyword research. Pick one keyword that is:
-
High demand (people are searching)
-
Medium-to-low competition (you can rank)
-
Evergreen (stays relevant for years)
Examples:
-
Fitness niche → Best Home Workout Routines in 2025
-
Travel niche → Ultimate Guide to Solo Travel in 2025
-
Blogging niche → How to Start a Profitable Blog in 2025
💡 Use Brainstorm It! (link) to validate demand and generate long-tail variations.
🧩 Step 3 — Map Supporting Posts
Now create 5–7 posts that answer related questions around your pillar.
Example (Blogging Pillar):
-
Pillar: How to Start a Profitable Blog in 2025
-
Supports:
-

👉 Use AI to speed this up:
Prompt:
“I run a blog about [NICHE]. My main topic is [PILLAR KEYWORD]. Create a content cluster with 1 pillar post + 7 supporting post ideas. Include target keyword, search intent, and suggested meta title.”
🖊 Step 4 — Outline Each Post (AI-Assisted)
Before writing, draft clear outlines so every article is SEO-ready.
Prompt:
“For the keyword [SUPPORTING KEYWORD] in the [NICHE] niche, create an SEO-optimized outline with H1, H2s, H3s, suggested word counts, and related keywords. Add a CTA linking back to the pillar.”
👉 Pro Tip: Save outlines in a Google Sheet (keyword map) with columns:
-
Post Title
-
URL
-
Target Keyword
-
Meta Title & Description
-
Interlink Targets

🔗 Step 5 — Build Internal Links the Right Way
Don’t just “drop links.” Use contextual anchors so links look natural.
-
Supporting → Pillar:
-
“In our guide to starting a blog in 2025, we cover setup step by step.”
-
-
Pillar → Supporting:
-
“Avoid these common blogging mistakes if you want to grow faster.”
-
-
Cross-links between supports:
-
“Once you know how to pick a domain, check our SEO checklist for 2025.”
-

📘 Step 6 — Finalize Your Lead Magnet + Insert CTAs
Now that you have real content, weave your lead magnet into every post.
-
Pillar post → opt-in form above the fold + end of post
-
Support posts → inline CTA mid-article + sidebar widget
👉 Example CTA:
“Want a free AI coach to help you plan your content cluster step by step? 👉 Get it here”
Use AWeber to embed forms directly in posts.
📈 Step 7 — Publish & Index
-
Publish your pillar first (sets authority).
-
Publish supporting posts 2–3 per week (keeps site fresh).
-
Submit each new URL to Google Search Console for faster indexing.
